The Czech Physiotherapy Association has its own headquarter and one staff employee and managing director. The association holds regular executive meetings once a month and furthers liasions with other health care professions and authorities. The Czech Physiotherapy Association does not hold membership in any trade union.

INFORMATION AND NUMBERS

 
 
 

The Czech association has no education department. There are altogether 20 physiotherapy schools graduating 450-500 students per year. The university training varies from 3 to 5 years.

The physiotherapy qualification leads both to an academic degree and a diploma. Studies allow for postgraduate education. Physiotherapists are involved in both teaching and research.

The Czech Republic has, in practice, recogition of physiotherapists. There are physiotherapists working in special fields of physiotherapy. Physiotherapists with diploma after a so called attestation/specialisation are "specialists" even is they are actually not.

TITLE AND REGULATIONS ON THE PROFESSION

 
 
 

Professional Title/ Qualification:

Fyzioterapeut

The Czech state has no protection of title or professional activity. There is no state regulation of the physiotherapy profession, and only private practitioners need a licence to practice.

The Czech republic has established a code of ethics for physiotherapists. The national authority responsible for the physiotherapy profession in Czech rep. is the Ministry of Health. There is no information on unemployment of physiotherapists.

INSURANCE AND
PRACTICE REGULATIONS

 
 
 

The physiotherapy services in the Czech rep. are not determined by the profession. The physiotherapist does not determine the clinical intervention of physiotherapy.

The Czech rep. offers both private and public physiotherapy services. The insurance cover for physiotherapy is paid both through the national health care system and privately by the patient.

The Czech Association has established a twinning program with the United Kingdom to an estimated cost of 17.187 Euro. Funding from another source (government / EU) has been received: 10.937 Euro.
